CBS Studios is working on an animated series based on the popular game ‘Among Us.’ According to Variety, the series is based on the premise of the game, namely, “Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.“
The series is being developed in collaboration with Innersloth, the independent game studio behind ‘Among Us.’ Owen Dennis, who has an overall deal with CBS Studios, will be the creator and executive producer of the project.
Among Us is a popular online multiplayer game where players work together as crew members on a spaceship while a few impostors try to sabotage and eliminate them. It involves social deduction and communication as players vote to identify the impostors. In October of that year, it reached the top spot on Google Play charts in 66 countries and ranked within the top 100 in all but two countries. Also, it secured the number one position on the iOS charts in 55 countries. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the game boasted nearly 500 million monthly active users, accumulated over 4 billion views on YouTube, and recorded over 1.22 billion viewing sessions on Twitch.
Titmouse, known for their work on shows like “Big Mouth” and “Star Trek: Lower Decks,” will be the animation studio for the Among Us series. The executive producers include Dennis, Forest Willard, Marcus Bromander, and Carl Neisser from Innersloth, as well as Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina from Titmouse.
The show is being produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions in association with Innersloth. While no network or streamer has been confirmed yet, discussions are ongoing. The show is covered by The Animation Guild instead of the WGA.
