Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio — who play Daredevil and Kingpin in the upcoming Marvel series ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ — have opened up about how Marvel was “incredibly open-minded, willing to correct course, and incredibly supportive” when ‘Born Again’ was reworked by scrapping the original version of the series and creating a version that continues the MCU narrative from the Netflix series.
During the Fan Expo Boston panel (via ComicBook.com), Cox said, “Marvel had been incredibly open-minded and willing to correct course, and incredibly supportive.” Cox added, “Early on, we were trying something that was a bit different, and very quickly they were able to identify that wasn’t maybe working as well as it could’ve done. Where we are now, I think I can speak for both of us that we feel very happy.”
D’Onofrio highlighted the bond with Cox and their united stance on these Marvel characters, the show, and the fandom, which made all the difference. He said, “The best thing about the situation is what Charlie just said about the bosses at Marvel, and also the fact that Charlie and I were a team. We supported each other in everything that we wanted, whether we were in the scene or not, whether it featured our characters or not. As a team, Charlie and I considered the story and the fans. Literally, I’m not kidding you. You guys, we thought about you constantly and brought you up constantly.”
The show was co-directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Dario Scardapane is the showrunner, replacing Matt Corman and Chris Ord. According to the show’s new plot: Marvel Studios presents ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ in which longtime rivals Matt Murdock (Cox) and Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them.
The new cast for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ includes Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn and Nikki M. James as Kristen McDuffie, both of whom were love interests of Murdock in Marvel Comics. Also, Michael Gandolfini will portray Daniel Blade, Arty Froushan as Buck Cashman, Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, and Genneya Walton as BB Urich.
‘Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on Disney+ in March 2025. Also, Season 1- Part 2 is set to begin filming in November 2024.
