Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the MCU, revealed that his children’s friends had criticized his movie “Thor: Love and Thunder.” These kids, who are around 8 years old, said that the film had too much humor and that the visual effects weren’t as good as they expected. Hemsworth admitted that he felt embarrassed and amused by their comments. While he cringed at their critiques, he also found them funny.
In an interview with GQ, Hemsworth said, “It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. ‘We thought this one had too much humor; the action was cool, but the VFX weren’t as good,’” he recalls. “I cringe and laugh equally at it.” Released in 2022, Love and Thunder was a hit at the box office but received mixed reviews from the (grown-up) critics. “I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly,” reflects Hemsworth. He pauses. “It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective… I love the process; it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”
Thor: Love and Thunder is directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Waititi, Russell Crowe, and Natalie Portman. The film has grossed $760 million worldwide.
Hemsworth’s upcoming film is Netflix’s Extraction 2. He will reprise the role as Tyler Rake, a former Australian SAS operator turned black-ops mercenary. The film is a sequel to the 2020 film, and it follows: After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.
Extraction 2 will premiere on Netflix on June 16, 2023.
