Nintendo has already confirmed the release date for ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2,’ scheduled for April 3rd, 2026.
‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2’ Will be the Base for “Nintendo cinematic universe,” Confirms Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt, who voices Mario in The Super Mario Bros. movies, revealed that ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2’ will play a role in building the “Nintendo cinematic universe.”
In an interview with Screen Rant, Pratt said, “Oh, man! There’s so much to explore. There are decades worth of [games] to explore, not only with Mario and Peach and Donkey Kong and Luigi and Bowser and Yoshi; that was teased at the end. But it just gets me so excited.” Pratt added, “I was such a Nintendo head growing up, so just thinking about how everything from Legend of Zelda to the entire Nintendo cinematic universe could be created and what that could look like for all of these characters that I love? I mean, there’s really no limit. We could talk about it for hours.”
Pratt also states that a bright future lies ahead for both the ‘Super Mario’ movie series and Nintendo films. He mentions seeing “lots” of Nintendo films coming in the future.
During a recent chat with GamesRadar+, Pratt said, “I can’t tell you much but I can say that there is another Mario movie coming. It gets me very excited thinking about the world of Mario and Nintendo in general, I think over the next decade we will be seeing lots of stories coming out of that world. I was thrilled, honored, and blessed to be part of the first one and moving forward I’m open to doing as much and as little as they want from me. I can’t say much but I am just as excited as everyone else.”
According to Universal Pictures, ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘ is described as a “new franchise,” indicating the possibility of a sequel. Co-directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are set to return for the sequel.
In an interview with Variety, Jack Black says he wants ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2’ to be a musical. Black said, “I think it [‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2’] should be a full musical [‘titled ‘Bowser’s Revenge.’], like what Todd Phillips is supposedly doing with ‘Joker 2’.”
