Following Jonathan Majors‘ termination from the MCU, Colman Domingo was considered for the role of Kang the Conqueror. At that time, Domingo was reportedly one of the options brought up at Marvel Studios to play Kang.
During the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Domingo confirmed that he spoke with Kevin Feige about the rumors of him replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang in the MCU. He stated that he wants a role to be uniquely his rather than stepping into someone else’s part. He also admitted that something ‘didn’t feel right’ about taking over an existing role.
Domingo said, “The Kang rumors… I personally knew that—listen, I’m all about energy. I just want to do things that make sense and bring a gentle energy. But I feel like I want a role to be mine, whatever that role is, whatever I develop.”
Domingo added, “I don’t want to just replace someone—something about that didn’t feel right to me. I said, ‘No, I want to build something from the ground up that’s my own.’ So, from my point of view, that was never really a conversation. You know what I mean? If I was discussed, I still don’t know if I was, but I just know that I would want to create something original. So, there are still talks… speaking of talks…”
In an interview with ScreenGeek, Colman Domingo confirmed his meeting with Marvel, saying, “I have had a meeting with Marvel, yes. But it wasn’t specifically about anything.”
“They literally sat down and said, ‘What do you want to do?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know. What do you got for me?’ So we’re having engagement, of course.”
He also shared his interest in joining the MCU:
“Who wouldn’t want to be part of the MCU? I just want it to be the right role—something made for me, where I can truly bring something to the character. We’ll see what happens. I don’t know yet, but I’m patient.”
By the way, Marvel has announced that Robert Downey Jr. will lead the upcoming Avengers movies, titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
