David F. Sandberg, director of Shazam! Fury of the Gods revealed that Shazam’s future depends on the success or failure of Shazam! 2. The film is 3 weeks ahead of its release, and Sandberg wants fans to note that a possible Shazam! 3 will depend on the success of Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
In a Twitter post, Sandberg spoke about the future of Shazam. He said, “James Gunn definitely won’t if people don’t go see the movie.” He added, “What I’ve been told is that there’s nothing in the Shazam films that contradicts the DCU plans. If more Shazam is what you want, your best bet is to go see the film.”
When asking about any changes made to Shazam! Fury of the Gods regarding the new DCU of DC Studios. Sandberg replied, “No. The finished film was delivered at the end of October last year, just before work officially began.
Most recently, Sandberg shared a clip from Shazam! Fury of the Gods in ScreenX format, which provides a wraparound panoramic experience that expands movies to a 270-degree field of view.
According to The Hollywood Handle, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is tracking to earn between $43 million and $52 million during its domestic opening weekend. It is one of the DCEU’s worst opening weekends in the history of the DCEU, worse than ‘Shazam!’ ($53.5M) and ‘Black Adam’ ($67M).
Sandberg told to Empire Magazine, “We landed there because Shazam’s powers come from Greek gods,” explains Sandberg of the new villains. “So what if these powers were stolen from the gods and now they want revenge?” He and his team created the three Daughters of Atlas, bringing the titular fury at the theft of their birthright. Shazam! Fury of the Gods budget is reportedly $125 million and the runtime is 2 hours and 10 minutes (130 minutes and 4 seconds).
The film will hit theaters on March 17, 2023.
