‘The Marvels‘ received mixed reviews at a public test screening this year. During post-production, director Nia DaCosta moved on to start working on her next film, which some consider an unusual decision for a film with a $250 million budget.
DaCosta should take more responsibility when handling a big-budget film. It appears Marvel may prioritize CGI and numerous superhero cameos over the content’s quality.
Nia DaCosta’s Move to ‘Hedda’ During ‘The Marvels’ Post-Production Raises Questions
Variety reported that while ‘The Marvels’ was in post-production, Nia DaCosta began working on another film called ‘Hedda‘ and moved to London for it. A source familiar with the production found it unusual for a director to leave a $250 million movie with just a few months to go.
The film had a runtime of 1 hour and 47 minutes (107 minutes). Rated PG-13 for action/violence and brief language.
Directed by Nia DaCosta, the film also holds the record of being the most expensive movie ever directed by a black woman, surpassing Ava DuVernay’s ‘A Wrinkle In Time’. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Park Seo-joon, Zawe Ashton, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur. The film also brings back Goose, the Flerken.
What is the Plot of ‘The Marvels’?
In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.”
Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
‘The Marvels’ will hit theaters on November 10, 2023.
