A24’s Eternity, starring Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner, will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2025.
In a recent interview with EW, Olsen described her experience on the set of Eternity as full of humor. She said, “I found so much humor wandering around set.” Olsen sees Eternity as a film made to create joy, laughter, and entertainment.
Olsen said, “I found so much humor wandering around set. The merch that they made was so detailed and so funny and brilliant. I took some of it with me because they really made me happy.”
After death, everyone gets one week to choose where to spend eternity. For Joan (Olsen), Larry (Teller), and Luke (Turner), the real question is who to spend it with. Joan must decide between her first love, who died in a war, and the man she built her life with.

According to Olsen, she taps into a longtime obsession in her role in Eternity: getting to be old. “I have always felt like a 92-year-old woman,” she said, laughing about her fascination with growing old. She explains that this stems from not having grandparents in her life, saying, “I would say a lot in high school, ‘I can’t wait to be really old.’ And my friends thought it was so strange.” Olsen wanted to imagine living to 90 and reflecting on decades of life, which motivated her to play Joan in David Freyne’s film, opening November 26. In the story, Joan and her husband Larry are in the third act of their lives, visiting an adult child and family. While Joan has terminal cancer, Larry dies first, and the film explores their experiences after his sudden death.
Following decades of marriage, elderly couple Joan (Olsen) and Larry (Teller) die within a week of each other. That means they needn’t wait long to reunite in the afterlife, a way station where every soul has one week to decide who to spend the rest of eternity with.
For Joan and Larry, the answer would seem to be straightforward. Enter Luke (Turner), Joan’s first husband, who died in the Korean War and has been waiting 67 years to have his one-and-only back in his arms. Does Joan choose to revive the passionate love of her youth? Or does she stick with the time-tested fortitude of her second marriage?
