After the screening, Stone said, “I hadn’t read the script. Tony was adapting the script at that point, right? He was in this kind of writing, but I think it took two years to actually read a draft of the script, at least for me.”
Recently, AACTA revealed the nominees for Best Actress in Film at the AACTA International Awards 2024, featuring Blanchett for ‘The New Boy,’ Lily Gladstone for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ Carey Mulligan for ‘Maestro,’ Margot Robbie for ‘Barbie,’ and Stone for ‘Poor Things.’
What is the Plot of ‘Poor Things’?
From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
The film also stars Youssef as Max McCandless, Jerrod Carmichael as Harry Astley, Christopher Abbott as Sir Aubrey de la Pole Blessington, Margaret Qualley as Felicity, Kathryn Hunter as Swiney, Suzy Bemba as Toinette, and Wayne Brett as Pries.
Shot on Kodak film, ‘Poor Things’ by DP Robbie Ryan features 35mm KODAK DOUBLE-X Black & White, EKTACHROME Color Reversal, and 500T Color Negative Film. The film hits select theaters on December 8, 2023, followed by a worldwide release on December 22nd.
