On X, Demers shared concept art, revealing that Harpin pitched a ‘Batman Beyond’ animated feature to Warner Bros. and DC five months ago. Despite doubts, their confidence won over officials, turning a ‘never’ into a ‘maybe’. Now, they’re aiming to pitch to James Gunn.

Demers said, “5 months ago, Patrick Harpin walked into Warner Bros. and DC officials and pitched an animated featureated Feature.”

Before we pitched, they warned us, “There is absolutely no way we can do a Beyond movie,”  but they loved our enthusiasm. We pitched the outline for the entire film, and what started as a ‘never’ turned into a ‘maybe’.

“In the time since, we’ve been pitching our way up the company, hoping to get to James Gunn. But for now, here’s a taste of what we’ve been cooking.”

This Batman Beyond project involves writer/director Patrick Harpin (My Dad the Bounty Hunter) and production designer/Producer Yuhki Demers (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ and its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).

What is ‘Batman Beyond’ About?

Batman Beyond is a popular animated television series that aired from 1999 to 2001. It’s set in the future of the DC Comics universe, where an elder Bruce Wayne mentors a new Batman, Terry McGinnis. Created by Alan Burnett, Paul Dini, Glen Murakami, Bruce Timm, and Darwyn Cooke, it ran for three series. It starred Will Friedle, Kevin Conroy, Stockard Channing, Cree Summer, and Lauren Tom.

Terry McGinnis is a high school student who takes on the mantle of Batman in a futuristic Gotham City under the guidance of an elder Bruce Wayne. In this setting, crime and corruption have evolved, and Terry faces new villains and challenges as he fights to protect the city. Alongside his mentor, Terry navigates personal struggles, unravels mysteries from the past, and upholds the legacy of the original Batman while forging his path as the Dark Knight of the future.

As we explore the concept art, it seems a live-action Batman Beyond movie could be on the horizon. Gunn and Peter Safran from DC Studios are involved, so it’s even more likely. What do you think: animated or live-action? Share your thoughts in the comments.
