The filming of Paul Feig‘s psychological thriller The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar, has officially begun in New York City.
During the filming, Sweeney was spotted on set as she arrived in Montclair, New Jersey, on January 6, 2025.
Sweeney also took a photo with fans during the filming. Check out the image below.
Based on a New York Times bestselling novel by Freida McFadden, the film follows Millie (Sweeney), a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Sklenar), an upscale, wealthy couple. She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.
According to the community Instagram page Ms. Morristown, “The Housemaid filming is underway at iconic Morristown locations, with some scenes temporarily restricting access to certain areas. As a result, the Peck School administration has been advised not to return to campus until Monday morning to accommodate production.”
Directed by Feig, with a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine, The Housemaid was published in 2022 and is a No. 1 New York Times bestseller that has sold over 1 million copies and inspired several follow-up books. Michele Morrone will also star in the movie.
In a statement, Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said, “Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina – they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.” Westerman added, “We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”
Produced by Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman, with the company’s Carly Kleinbart Elter overseeing the project, Feigco’s Feig and Laura Fischer are also producing. Sweeney and Seyfried will serve as executive producers, alongside Alex Young and Freida McFadden.
The Housemaid will hit theaters on December 25, 2025, from Lionsgate.
