James Gunn Confirms Krypto the Super-Dog’s Role in “Superman: Legacy” and Jokes About Paying Chris Pratt in Crypto

In an interview with the Toronto Sun while promoting “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” James Gunn confirmed that Krypto the Super-Dog will appear in the upcoming “Superman: Legacy” film. Gunn jokingly offered the role to Chris Pratt, whom he suggested could do motion capture on set and walk around on all fours as Krypto. Pratt responded by saying he’d take the role but insisted on being paid in “crypto,” to which Gunn laughed and responded that he’d receive zero dollars.

Gunn: “I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto the Superdog (in Superman Legacy). You could do motion capture on set and walk around on your hands and knees, but you can’t talk.

Pratt: “I’ll do Krypto but you have to pay me in crypto.”

Gunn: “I’ll pay you in crypto, which amounts to zero dollars. [laughs]

Pratt: “It sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman — breaking news.”

That’s a scoop for me.

Gunn: “It is a scoop, I guess.”

Pratt: “Way to go. You’re fired. Back to Marvel.” [laughs]

In a recent interview, James Gunn confirmed that ‘Superman: Legacy’ will not have the same tone as the ones he directs. Gunn confirmed that he respects old Superman movies and that the script he wrote was definitely a sincere superhero film. Gunn said, “How can I make it different from the Superman movies that have been made so far, but also have it respect all the Superman movies that have been made so far?” He added, “So it just took me some time to try to figure it out.”
