Following the success of The Garfield Movie, a sequel titled The Garfield Movie 2 is reportedly in development at Alcon Entertainment and Columbia Pictures, as confirmed by insider Daniel Richtman in his latest Patreon post.
Although no official announcement has come from the production companies, Mark Dindal—who directed the first film—is expected to return for the sequel. Chris Pratt and Samuel L. Jackson are also set to reprise their roles as the voices of Garfield and Vic.
Garfield Hints at a New Adventure in The Garfield Movie’s Post-Credits Scene!
In the post-credits scene of The Garfield Movie—a Garfield comic strip appears on screen—with Garfield saying, “Why are you still here? Oh, I get it! You’re waiting for the sequel!” This hints that another Garfield adventure is on the way.
The Garfield Movie was released on May 24, 2024, in the United States by Columbia Pictures through Sony Pictures Releasing, and it grossed $257 million worldwide against a $60 million budget. The film’s screenplay was penned by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds, based on the comic strip Garfield created by Jim Davis. The sequel will also draw from this.
According to the plot of The Garfield Movie, “Garfield, the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father—scruffy street cat Vic—Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life to join Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.”
The voice cast also includes Hannah Waddingham as Jinx, Ving Rhames as Otto, Nicholas Hoult as Jon Arbuckle, Cecily Strong as Marge Malone, Harvey Guillén as Odie, Brett Goldstein as Roland, Bowen Yang as Nolan, Snoop Dogg as Maurice, Janelle James as Olivia, Angus Cloud as Snickers, Jeff Foxworthy as a bird, and Eugenia Caruso as Maria.
