Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Canon Events Contains Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man
In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man 2099 talks about “Canon Events.” These events are important for keeping the dimensions stable, and they usually involve a spider-variant mourning the death of a loved one. One example highlighted in the movie is Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man mourning his Uncle Ben in a live-action scene.
Later on, Spider-Man 2099 and Miles have an argument about the ethics of these Canon Events. In the background, footage is shown of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man also mourning his Uncle Ben.
According to the film’s plot, Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most. Anyone can wear the mask – it’s how you wear it that makes you a hero.
Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, the movie is a sequel to “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (2018). Shameik Moore reprises his role as Miles and stars alongside a cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.
