Following the wrap of Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, Chris Hemsworth has moved on to his next action-thriller project, directed by Patrick Vollrath and described as a “Die Hard on a submarine”-style thriller.
Recently, Hemsworth was spotted on the set of Vollrath’s Subversion near the Brisbane River, close to the marina in Murarrie. The film follows a former naval commander (Hemsworth) who sets out to pilot a submarine transporting an illegal shipment through international waters.
In the images, Hemsworth is seen wearing a flower-printed button-up shirt paired with brown trousers and matching lace-up shoes. The crew appeared to be filming a scene in which he was later spotted steering a military-style boat with a U.S. flag at the rear — likely part of an action sequence.
Here are the plot details for Subversion:
Subversion follows a once-promising naval commander (Hemsworth) who is blackmailed by a cartel-like organization into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters. Thrust into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse with a relentless Coast Guard officer (Lily James) in pursuit, he must outmaneuver blockades and navigate deadly threats both inside and outside the submarine.
The cast of Subversion includes Hemsworth, James, Michael Peña, Simone Kessell, Robert John Burke, David Wenham, Joe Cole, Teresa Palmer, Damon Herriman, Jimmy Gonzales, Alex Meraz, CJ Bloomfield, Awdo Awdo, and Saffron Deacon.
The film is directed by Patrick Vollrath from a script by Andrew Ferguson. Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing, with executive producers Stephen Shafer and Greg Cohen for di Bonaventura Pictures. E. Bennett Walsh will also serve as an executive producer.

Bennett Walsh with another complex action epic that will be shot between Brisbane and the Gold Coast,” Ms. Feeney said.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura added, “Subversion is a high-stakes action thriller that needs both scale and scope. Queensland was a natural fit because it offers incredible scenery, a great studio, and a world-class crew. Much of the movie takes place on the water, and Queensland has spectacular oceanscapes.”
Subversion will hit theaters in 2026, by Amazon MGM Studios.
