Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed the first trailer for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series. The first season is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The reveal was made at an event in London celebrating the launch of HBO Max in the country.
In the trailer, the first look at Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and John Lithgow as Dumbledore is shown.
The synopsis reads: There is nothing special about Harry Potter — at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship, and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk, as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past.
The trailer shows the first look at Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton as Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
“Your parents were the bravest, kindest people I’ve ever met … they stood up for what they believed was right. … Next time I see you will be at Hogwarts,” Hagrid tells Harry. “Mr. Potter, I think we can expect great things from you,” Ollivander, the wand maker, later says to him.
The series, based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
