The first look at ‘Moana 2‘ villain “Matangi” has been revealed in a new promotional image. The first trailer for the Moana sequel gave us a hint of a mysterious, villainous character named “Matangi,” who poses a new threat to Moana and Maui. See the image below.
In the trailer, Matangi says, “You will be destroyed. And your Wayfinder, too.” Awhimai Fraser voices the character.
According to reports, Matangi’s form blends with the bats surrounding her—appearing to flow around her like a living cloak. The name “Matangi” means “Goddess of Wisdom” or “Divine Mother” and is also the name of a Hindu goddess associated with inner thought and speech.
Directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, ‘Moana 2’ features music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
The voice stars are Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Simea, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Hualālai Chung as Moni, Rachel House as Tala, Awhimai Fraser as Matangi, Gerald Ramsey as Tautai Vasa, and Alan Tudyk as Heihei.
