Halina Reijn‘s upcoming erotic thriller Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, is confirmed to premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival in September. The film follows a CEO (Kidman) who begins an illicit affair with her much younger intern (Dickinson). You can see the first-look image below.
Babygirl is written and directed by Halina Reijn, who made her directorial debut with 2022’s Bodies Bodies Bodies. The film also stars Antonio Banderas, Sophie Wilde, Jean Reno, John Cenatiempo, Vaughan Reilly, Victor Slezak, Anoop Desai, Bartley Booz, and Maxwell Whittington-Cooper.
Here’s the plot details of Babygirl:
An erotic thriller. A career woman in her 40s has an affair with a 21-year-old intern. Romy has a beautiful family (including her loving husband Jacob) and a thriving business – she is adored (and sometimes feared) by all. But when empathetic young intern Samuel (Dickinson) comes to work at her company, Romy’s outward facade of perfection is about to implode.
According to World of Reel, the film’s test screen happened in June at the AMC Lincoln Square. From the reports, it is said that Dickinson is said to “burn up the screen,” and his performance is being described as “his big superstar breakout moment.” Kidman’s character reconciles the psychology of being in a BDSM relationship with Dickinson’s intern, who also forces her to join in these mind and sex games, she crawls like a dog and calls Dickinson “master.” It contains brief nudity here.
The film is produced by Halina Reijn and David Hinojosa, with production companies A24 and 2AM.
