Nintendo has recently announced the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie — The Super Mario Galaxy Movie — which is hitting theaters in April 2026.
Following the announcement, Cinemark Chile accidentally leaked the full plot synopsis for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. On X, @Minions_Fanboy shared the full plot details. Here it is:
After receiving the key to Brooklyn for saving their home, Mario and Luigi enjoy life as heroes for the first time. But the celebration soon attracts an old acquaintance: Wario, a former co-worker who, blinded by greed, is willing to do anything to steal their glory.
What begins as a dispute on Earth soon connects to a greater danger: Bowser Jr., Bowser’s son, has secretly emerged and taken control of the mysterious center of the universe, with a plan that threatens to expand the Koopa Empire far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom.

To stop him, the brothers embark on a journey through strange worlds alongside Peach, Yoshi, and Princess Rosalina, who must protect her star children before they are consumed by darkness.
Each step reveals more dangerous challenges, and a black market for forbidden stars leads them to confront truths they never imagined.

But not everything is in their hands: seven elite Koopa Hunters have been unleashed, one for each corner of the galaxy, with a mission that is simple—make sure no one can challenge the new order Bowser Jr. intends to establish.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Super Mario Galaxy is described as “charming, brilliantly conceived, and utterly capable of making you feel like a kid all over again.”
Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of the animation studio Illumination, said, “While the Super Mario Galaxy games are the core inspiration for our story, this next film holds surprises for fans of every Mario era.”

The cast of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, written by Matthew Fogel, and is based on the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy and Nintendo’s broader Mario franchise. It is produced by Universal Pictures, Illumination, and Nintendo.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to hit theaters in the United States on April 3, 2026.
