The first report of Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Challengers‘ has been released. The R-rated film is described as hot, spicy, seductive, and ruthless, filled with delicious drama and terrific tennis sequences.
How is Zendaya’s ‘Challengers’?
According to Erik Davis, a reviewer on Twitter, who is affiliated with Fandango and RottenTomatoes, wrote: “Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers is hot, spicy, seductive, ruthless, full of delicious drama and terrific tennis sequences. Josh O’Connor and especially Mike Faist are great, yet they both serve Zendaya, who is outstanding. It’s unlike any other sports film I’ve seen, which is what I loved most about it. A definite recommend!”
According to Twitter user Jared Alexander, “Challengers is the whole goddamn meal. Ferocious performances from Zendaya, Faist, and O’Connor, with an engrossing feeling from the first frame paired with stellar direction. And that score… SCORE! Simply put, it’s a banger.”
According to Twitter user Brandon Lewis @ SXSW, “Challengers is psychosexual warfare in tennis cosplay. Luca Guadagnino delivers a taut, funny, sweaty, and ferocious character study of three characters volleying between ambition and comfort. Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist are a killer trio. The score is extraordinary.”
Zendaya on ‘Challengers’ Intimacy Scenes
During an interview with THR at the Challengers Rome premiere on Monday, April 8, 2024, Zendaya revealed how she and her co-stars Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist handled their steamy scenes together.
She said, “We had an intimacy coordinator, which was fantastic and very helpful, because it was important that we felt safe.” She added, “I spoke with my colleagues so that we could find a way to feel at ease. We played tennis together, we went out together, and we rehearsed together. We got to bond and feel good with each other.”
‘Challengers’ is directed by Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes. The film also stars Scottie DiGiacomo, Faith Fay, Cornel Bradford, Jake Jensen, Keanu Ham, Christine Dye, A.J. Lister, Carlyne Fournier, Joe Curtin, Emelia Camille Harewood, Sid Jarvis, Charles Massey, Sam Xu, Connor Murray, and Cameen M Copeland.
Tashi, a former tennis player turned coach, has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event — close to the lowest level of the tournament on the pro tour. Tensions soon run high when he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend, and Tashi’s former boyfriend. The film is rated R in the US by the MPAA for language, sexual content, and graphic nudity.
Produced by Guadagnino, Rachel O’Connor, Amy Pascal, and Zendaya.
