Universal Pictures has released the first-look teaser for Shrek 5, set to hit theaters on Christmas 2026.
Fans have reacted negatively to the teaser, as DreamWorks Animation has made significant changes to the animation style. Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey have all been redesigned for the fifth installment of the franchise. Watch the teaser below.
There is also a surprise role in the teaser—Zendaya (Dune: Part Two, Challengers) has voiced Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.
According to the film’s co-director, the teaser was originally set for release in December 2025. However, the early reveal was prompted by the leak of Zendaya’s casting.

Directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, with Brad Ableson as co-director, Shrek 5 features a screenplay written by Michael McCullers.
The film is a sequel to Shrek Forever After (2010), serving as the fifth main installment and the seventh overall in the Shrek film series. It is loosely based on William Steig’s 1990 picture book Shrek!.
In the film, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will reprise their iconic voice roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona, respectively. Zendaya joins the cast as Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.
Produced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and Gina Shay.
Shrek 5 will hit theaters on December 23, 2026 by Universal Pictures.
