George R.R. Martin has revealed that three animated ‘Game of Thrones‘ series, including ‘Nine Voyages,’ following the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, are in development. While none have been officially approved by HBO, they are reportedly nearing approval according to Martin.
George R.R. Martin is Working on ‘Game of Thrones’ Series
Recently, Martin wrote a blog post (shared by Variety) praising Amber Noizumi and Michael Green for their work on Netflix‘s ‘Blue Eye Samurai.’ Martin also wrote that he is currently working on three animated ‘A Song of Ice & Fire‘ spin-off series, but none have been approved yet.
Martin said, “‘Blue Eye Samurai’s’ very much its own thing, and it is magnificent. Even if you don’t normally watch animation, give it a try. It’s terrific. If you like my own stuff, I think you’ll love it.” He added, “As it happens, HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of ‘A Song of Ice & Fire.’ None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them.”
Martin continued, “We have moved ‘Nine Voyages,’ our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, over from live-action to animation. A move I support fully. Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live-action version prohibitively expensive, what with half the show taking place at sea and the necessity of creating a different port every week, from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to… well, on and on and on. There’s a whole world out there. And we have a much better chance of showing it all with animation. So we now have three animated projects underway.”
Recently, HBO released the first trailer for ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 during the CCXP fan convention in Brazil. Season 2 will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to premiere on Max in 2024.
