According to X user @ThatAshleyErin, Gladiator 2 is a bloody, action-packed visual feast. Paul Mescal shines, Denzel Washington chews the scenery in another iconic performance, and Pedro Pascal… yes. It doesn’t hit as hard emotionally as the first but is still a solid, crowd-pleasing spectacle.

According to X user @britany_murphs, Gladiator 2 was a great sequel that paid homage to the first film while crafting its own unique story, featuring bigger battles and daring fight choreography. Mescal was fantastic, with Washington and Connie Nielsen as absolute scene-stealers!

Gladiator 2 is set decades after Gladiator (2000) and follows Lucius Verus (Mescal) — the son of Lucilla (Nielsen) and Maximus. After a brutal Roman invasion and the tragic death of his wife, Lucius is forced into a life of slavery. Like Maximus before him, Lucius resolves to fight as a gladiator in the Colosseum, under the tutelage of Macrinius (Washington) — a former slave who is secretly plotting to overthrow the young emperors, Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn), in hopes of controlling Rome.

The Scott directing film is written by David Scarpa. Mescal stars as Lucius Verus, with Washington portraying a former slave-turned-wealthy arms dealer. Other cast members include Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, May Calamawy, Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas, and Tim McInnerny.

The film is produced by Scott, Michael Pruss, Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher, and David Franzoni, with production companies including Scott Free Productions and Red Wagon Entertainment.

Gladiator 2 will hit theaters on November 22, 2024, by Paramount Pictures in the United States and Universal Pictures internationally.
