HBO’s ‘The Last of Us‘ Season 2 resumes production following the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Filming is set to start on January 7, 2024, in Vancouver, BC, Canada, as confirmed by the Production List.

‘The Last of Us’ Season 1 premiered on HBO on January 15, 2023, and was renewed for Season 2 on January 27, 2023, after the opening episode surpassed 22 million views. Showrunner Craig Mazin revealed that Season 2 will be split into two parts. He said, “The show won’t conclude with Season 2 unless viewers don’t watch it and it gets canceled.“

In Season 2, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return to their roles as Joel Miller and Ellie Williams. Additionally, the new cast member Shannon Berry has been confirmed for the role of Abby Anderson.

Based on the 2013 video game of the same name, developed by Naughty Dog, the series follows Joel (Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting Ellie (Ramsey), a teenage girl, across the post-apocalyptic United States, and Joel’s younger brother and former militiaman, Tommy (Gabriel Luna). Along the way, they encounter fellow survivors, cutthroat bandits, and monstrous clickers who have become so infected by the disease that fungi sprout from their bodies. Created and written by Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO.

‘The Last of Us’ earned nominations for 24 Primetime Emmy Awards. The series premiere attracted 4.7 million viewers on its first day, making it the second-largest premiere for HBO since 2010. Within two months, it garnered nearly 40 million viewers, and by May, it averaged almost 32 million viewers per episode. Recently, ‘The Last of Us’ Season 1 received a Best Adaptation nomination at The Game Awards 2023.

Reportedly, the budget for ‘The Last of Us’ season 2 will surpass that of season 1. The storyline will span multiple seasons and feature a greater number of infected compared to season 1. Expect deviations from the source material of ‘The Last of Us Part 2’.
