‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, two less than season 1. According to Deadline, the show could most likely have a season 3, and filming for season 2 will begin in the fall in the UK, with a premiere date of 2024.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Is Already Planned
HBO is planning a third season of ‘House of the Dragon’. According to Deadline, the “Game of Thrones” prequel is part of the show’s long-term strategy, which includes a third season. HBO is seriously considering moving forward with scripts, casting, and a production plan, as the network, too, is seeking to think long-term instead of season-to-season.
House of the Dragon season 2 Ends With A Major Battle
At the end of Season 2, there will be a major battle, which moves to Season 3. An HBO spokesperson, who confirmed to Deadline that Season 2 will contain 8 episodes, stressed that the episode count trim was story-driven. It was initially planned for another 10-episode season, but changed due to some script rewrites. Given the leadership change at HBO’s parent company, some pointed to Warner Bros. Discovery leadership’s focus on cost-cutting.
The show is a prequel to the popular series “Game of Thrones,” and is based on the novel “Fire & Blood” by George R. R. Martin. “Set 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” and focuses on the history of House Targaryen, one of the major families in the world of Westeros. The show will explore the rise of House Targaryen and its eventual downfall, with a particular focus on the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that erupted within the family over the succession to the Iron Throne.”
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.
In a statement, Martin said, “I am thrilled that we still have 10 hours every season to tell our tale.” He added, “I hope that will continue to be true. It is going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons, from start to finish.”
‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 will premiere on HBO Max in 2023.
