Ian McKellen and Alan Cumming were spotted together in London, where they are ready for the filming of Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Studios has already announced some of the cast members for Avengers: Doomsday. McKellen and Cumming, who were seen in Fox’s X-Men movies, are returning. McKellen will reprise the role of Magneto, and Cumming will return as Nightcrawler.
In a recent interview with Variety, Cumming revealed that he had already undergone makeup tests for the Nightcrawler role. Before, it took about four and a half hours to apply it, but now it’s only 90 minutes.
“Isn’t it nuts? I’m excited and amazed,” Cumming said. “It’s been 23 years since I was a superhero. I’ve had some makeup tests already for the role, but what’s great about it was that before, it was about four and a half hours to apply it, but now it’s only 90 minutes.” Cumming added, “They hadn’t decided on them before we started filming. Now, they just stick onto my face. It’s a game changer. I’m going back to being a 60-year-old superhero, and everyone seems really lovely.”
Marvel President Kevin Feige revealed during CinemaCon 2025 that they have not yet announced the full cast for Avengers: Doomsday. He also confirmed that the film will focus on the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and the original X-Men all fighting Doctor Doom.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film is joined by longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely, who is penning the screenplay.
