James Gunn Revealed He Is Hiring Great Directors And Writers For Upcoming DCU Movies

James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios, revealed that he is hiring great directors and writers for upcoming DCU films. The DC Universe, co-created by Gunn and Peter Safran, serves as a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

In the DC Universe, the first chapter, titled “Gods and Monsters,” will contain five films: Superman: Legacy (2025), The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing. Also, there will be five TV series: Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold.

Gunn, in an interview with EL PAÍS, revealed that he focuses on hiring great directors and writers for the upcoming DCU. He plans to create interesting and unique content rather than repeating the same old formula. He said, “I’m hiring great directors and great writers. It’s going to be interesting stuff, if nothing else. That’s what I’d rather make, stuff that’s interesting and doesn’t work, than stuff that is just the same old thing that we’ve seen again and again.”

He also shared his personal struggles with addiction and highlighted the importance of focusing on the creative process while avoiding distractions like money, power, and negativity.

Gunn said, “My demons change over the years. I was an alcoholic as a young person and a drug addict. I went through a number of crazy years. I think that for me, it’s really about focusing on the creative process, not being distracted by money, power, attention, or negativity, and just focusing on the creative process. If I can do that, then everything works out really well. It can still be a mental challenge. But life is difficult enough without me making it more difficult.”

Gunn is writing and directing the film ‘Superman: Legacy’. The film has entered pre-production, and its release date is scheduled for July 11, 2025. He confirmed that his ‘Superman: Legacy’ will not have the same tone as the ones he directs. He also said that he respects old Superman movies and that the script he made was definitely a sincere superhero movie.

Superman: Legacy follows the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Gunn’s recent Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, was released in theaters. The film has received praise from the audience and critics. He made an awesome trilogy with Guardians in the MCU. The film has grossed over $750 million worldwide. Read the review.
