Fans of the DCU who are worried about James Gunn’s DCU and what might happen after Warner Bros. Discovery is sold do not need to worry. The DCU is not in danger and will remain intact regardless of who buys WBD.
According to a Forbes report, even if Warner Bros. Discovery is sold, the direction of the DC Universe will remain unchanged. New ownership is unlikely to overhaul Gunn and Safran’s long-term plans.
The new owner of WBD is expected to keep Gunn and Peter Safran as heads of DC Studios and allow them to continue their plans without interference.

Gunn’s Superman is the most popular superhero film of 2025 with a box office result at least 40 percent higher than any of the previous nine DCEU movies from the past eight years. It outperformed all three Marvel Studios releases this year and earned universal critical acclaim, high audience scores, strong streaming numbers, and impressive home entertainment sales and rentals.
The film is expected to generate well over $100 million in profits and approach $150 million globally by the end of the year. It is not a failure, it did not underperform, and it was widely embraced by mainstream audiences and most fans. No amount of resentment, revisionism, or misinformation can change those facts.
Whoever buys WBD, or Warner Bros. after a potential split, should keep Gunn and Safran as co-CEOs of DC Studios and allow them to continue building the DCU without interruption.
Forbes also says the most sensible outcome of the WBD sale would be Apple stepping in as the buyer, either for the entire company or specifically for the Warner Bros. streaming and studio divisions.
DCU Building Toward Super Friends or Justice Gang, Not Justice League
