The first trailer for James Gunn‘s Superman movie will drop in mid-December 2024. If the trailer drops on December 15, it will mark the 46th anniversary of Superman: The Movie. The trailer’s runtime will be 2 minutes and 30 seconds, and it is expected to appear in theaters alongside Mufasa: The Lion King.
Recently, Gunn debunked reports on Threads claiming that Warner Bros. Pictures was unhappy with the trailer cut. There is, however, reportedly enormous internal pressure at Warner Bros. for the Superman trailer to be well-received. The studio has requested multiple cuts to ensure the best version is released.
Gunn responded, “Well, sort of. But when he says ‘studio,’ that’s solely me, as the only studio involved in cutting or anything related to the trailer is DC Studios—i.e., me and Peter. And I’m the creatively demanding one. This is the exact same rigorous process I’ve gone through cutting every Guardians trailer, pushing the marketing folks as hard as I can, cutting and recutting until I think we have something worthy of the film itself. That said, my notes are a lot more specific than ‘make it better.'”
In the film, David Corenswet plays the role of Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
