James Gunn's Superman trailer leak

The first trailer for James Gunn‘s Superman recently had a press screening at a theater in Los Angeles. Following the screening, the trailer was described as emotional and heartwarming. It doesn’t have much dialogue, focusing more on music with a guitar/rock theme. Some brief but important appearances were shown. You can watch the full trailer exclusively tomorrow across all social platforms.

The teaser trailer starts with Superman (David Corenswet) crashing into a snowy landscape—hurt and struggling to stand. The silence breaks as he softly whistles, calling Krypto, who bursts through the snow to his side. In pain but determined, Superman whispers, “Take me home.” The scene builds to a distorted electric guitar version of John Williams’ iconic Superman theme—mixing nostalgia with a modern twist. The teaser focuses on visuals and music to create emotion—without giving away the full story. Key moments include Superman saving a little girl from an explosion, a quick shot of Clark Kent at the Daily Planet, and a floating kiss with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan)—showing their strong bond amidst the chaos.

Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) lurks in the background, hinting at dark plans, while the Fortress of Solitude makes a return with its iconic crystal formations. Key moments include Superman clashing with Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), a brief shot of Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Superman walking calmly through a hostile crowd as tensions rise. The mood shifts to hope as people in a struggling community gather under a Superman flag, and a young boy whispers his name with awe. Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern brings charm, and a heartfelt porch scene with Pa Kent highlights Superman’s humanity. The teaser ends on a quiet yet powerful note—Superman and Lois stand hand-in-hand, looking to the sky, symbolizing love, trust, and hope.

In an interview with The Wrap, Gunn opened up about the Superman movie. He said the film “just starts in the middle of the action.”

Gunn explained, “Superman’s already existing. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman’s guts from the beginning, although they don’t know each other personally.”

Gunn says there’s not as much humor in Superman compared to his other films.

“There’s still plenty of humor in it… we’re trying to create something that is grounded, but also it’s an incredibly fanciful world,” he explained.

In the film, Corenswet plays the role of Clark Kent/Superman, Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Hoult as Lex Luthor, Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Here’s the plot details for Superman:

“Superman, now a cub reporter in Metropolis, sets out on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.”

Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
