Joaquin Phoenix is set to star in Todd Haynes‘ next film, which takes place in the 1930s. The film tells the story of a love affair between two men, based on a bold and original script, according to Haynes.
According to Haynes, his next film is described as a love story between two men, with Joaquin Phoenix playing the role of a gay character. Speaking to Les Inrocks, Haynes said, “There’s another movie I want to do in early 2024. It’s a project that Joaquin Phoenix brought to me, and it’s set in the 1930s. A love story between two men, based on an original, very audacious scenario. This is, I believe, his first gay role. I am very excited about this project!“
Most recently, Todd Haynes’ new film ‘May December‘ premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. staring Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton. The film received an 8-minute standing ovation after the screening. The film follows, Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, a married couple (Julianne Moore and Charles Melton) buckles under the pressure when an actress (Natalie Portman) arrives to do research for a film about their past.
Phoenix has a busy schedule ahead with four upcoming films. He plays Napoleon Bonaparte in “Napoleon,” a collaboration with director Ridley Scott. He is also set to work with director Lynne Ramsay again in the film “Polaris,” alongside Rooney Mara. Phoenix will star in a Joker sequel titled “Joker: Folie à Deux,” written by Scott Silver and Todd Phillips. Additionally, he will co-star with Mara in Pawel Pawlikowski’s dramatic thriller “The Island.”
