American model and actress Kim Kardashian has signed a first-look deal with 20th Television following her recent acting debut in Season 12 of FX’s American Horror Story.
According to Deadline, Kardashian is set to star in and produce a new drama series for Hulu—titled All’s Fair. She has also driven two movie deals and one scripted TV series package—all of which were sold in bidding wars. For her first project under the multi-year pact—Group Chat—Kardashian is teaming up with longtime friend La La Anthony. The BMF star will headline the comedy—created by black-ish creator Kenya Barris—based on Anthony’s bestseller The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness. Group Chat, currently in development for Hulu, is a co-production between 20th Television and BET Studios, where Barris is a principal partner.
In a statement, Kardashian said, “I’m incredibly interested in telling stories that are personal, complicated, relevant, from my own experiences and those familiar to me.” Kardashian added, “I had a front-row seat to working with the exceptional team at 20th Television during American Horror Story: Delicate, and I’m so excited to dive into developing my first wave of television projects with the team led by Karey Burke and Eric Schrier, and to continue working alongside Craig Erwich and his entire group at Hulu and Disney.”
Kardashian and Anthony will produce Group Chat. Barris will executive produce through his Khalabo Ink Society, with the company’s Adam Kassan also serving as an executive producer.
In a recent interview, Kardashian joked about playing more emotive roles in future acting projects: “I feel like you need less Botox for more emotion, and I do not have that. How am I gonna be scared? How am I gonna cry?”
Kardashian says she only has 10 more years of looking good, “I can do a movie a year. I’ve got about 10 years where I still look good, so that’s all I’ve got in me, and then I’ll take some time off.”
Karey Burke, President of 20th Television, and Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, said, “Kim is a multi-hyphenate in every sense of the word, who has her finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist while simultaneously helping to define it. Her success in television with our teams—from The Kardashians to American Horror Story: Delicate—coupled with her ability to capture the imaginations of millions, puts her in the unique position to develop and produce stories that will undoubtedly pierce the culture.”
The three packages involving Kardashian that sold in highly competitive situations this year include the series Calabasas—executive produced by the SKIMS mogul and her Delicate co-star Emma Roberts—which landed at Netflix; and two movies in which Kardashian is set to star and produce: the comedy The Fifth Wheel at Netflix and an untitled thriller at Amazon MGM Studios. She is represented by WME.
