Will the SSU get strengthened with the upcoming Kraven the Hunter movie? Hope so! The director J.C. Chandor wants fans to believe in his movie. He said the consecutive failures of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) have affected Kraven the Hunter, which is set to release on December 13, 2024.
Apart from the Spider-Verse animated films, the live-action movies in the SSU have received almost universally bad reviews from critics. However, the Venom film series has brought in some money for Sony, while Morbius and Madame Web have become some of the biggest disaster movies of all time. The SSU franchise has grossed over $2 billion worldwide.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Chandor asks fans to give Kraven the Hunter a chance. He is confident that the movie will restore confidence in the SSU. He also understands that fans were disappointed with past SSU movies.
Chandor hopes Kraven the Hunter will help erase the negative reactions from previous films and asks fans to support the movie.
Chandor said, “I don’t want to get too into the nitty gritty of it, but here’s what I would say: for me as a filmmaker, my number one goal, especially, quite frankly, over the last couple of years where you guys are deep in this world … some of the fans out there, a lot of the fans, were upset with certain decisions and certain outcomes [of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe].” Chandor added, “Then with other films, they’ve gone on to be tremendous successes. So there’s been there’s been a mixed success rate. People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film, and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance.”
We recently reported that the runtime of Kraven the Hunter is 1 hour and 59 minutes, making it the longest film in the SSU. Additionally, an insider report reveals that the film is “okay,” but still “better than Venom: The Last Dance.”
A new TV spot for Kraven the Hunter reveals that Kraven will gain his powers from a herbal remedy potion. However, in the first trailer, it was shown that Kraven receives his powers from the blood of a lion. Check the clip below.
In Kraven the Hunter, Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is recruited by Calypso (Ariana DeBose) to stop a corrupt magnate named Gregory Herd (Alessandro Nivola) from doing something bad called the Gathering of the Five. Herd hires two people, the Foreigner and the Chameleon (Fred Hechinger), to stop Kraven. Later, Kraven finds out that the Chameleon is his brother, and their father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), is the real villain and Herd’s boss. Calypso also works for Nikolai and tricks Kraven so that Nikolai can sacrifice him. But then Calypso falls in love with Kraven and helps him fight Nikolai.
Directed by Chandor from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk.
Produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and David Householter, with production companies including Columbia Pictures, Marvel Entertainment, TSG Entertainment, and Arad Productions.
Kraven the Hunter arrived in theaters on December 13, 2024.
