Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle/The Punisher is set to return in a standalone Marvel/Disney+ show.
According to a new Patreon post by Daniel Richtman, “Marvel Studios is reportedly developing a new ‘The Punisher’ show.” This development was previously reported by X user @MyTimeToShineH.
Bernthal will continue to play The Punisher following his MCU appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. In the Born Again show, The Punisher will have a major role, and leaked first-look images have already confirmed his return.
During an interview with Phase Hero, Marvel TV Head Brad Winderbaum revealed that there is a planned future for Bernthal’s Punisher in the MCU.
In an interview with Collider, Bernthal shared his thoughts on why The Punisher is so popular, stating, “There’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody.”
Bernthal explained, “I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has. In the hearts and minds of comic book fans, first responders, people in the military, and people all over the globe, I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me, and I care about that character deeply.”
He added, “I also know that it’s absolutely essential that, if we do it, we do it right and maintain sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”
As we reported, the first official trailer for Daredevil: Born Again will be released in mid-January 2025. The series is co-directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, with Dario Scardapane serving as the showrunner.
Here’s the plot synopsis for Daredevil: Born Again:
“Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York City. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.”
The show also stars includes Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn and Nikki M. James as Kristen McDuffie, both of whom were love interests of Murdock in Marvel Comics. Also, Michael Gandolfini will portray Daniel Blade, Arty Froushan as Buck Cashman, Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, and Genneya Walton as BB Urich.
