The idea of adding Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark/Iron Man into Marvel’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘ was scrapped.
Was Robert Downey Jr. Supposed to Make a Cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’?
According to insider Daniel Richtman on the X platform, Marvel Studios reportedly wanted Downey Jr. to make a cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ but it didn’t work out. The scene was supposed to serve as both a buildup for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars‘ and as a payoff to a scene in the film.
During an Esquire cover story, Downey Jr. was asked if he would return to the MCU again. He stated that the Iron Man role was specifically chosen for him, so if Marvel President Kevin Feige calls him back, he will return.
Downey said, “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is directed by Shawn Levy, the film stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Rob Delaney as Peter, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and new additions Emma Corrin, Tyler Mane as Sabretooth, and Matthew Macfadyen. The script is penned by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, Reynolds, and Levy.
Here’s the official synopsis for Deadpool & Wolverine:
Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date—”Deadpool & Wolverine.” A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to— F***. Synopses are so fuck*** stupid.
The film had a runtime of 2 hours and 7 minutes. It is rated R for “strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references.”
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ tickets are now on sale at Fandango, AMC, IMAX, and Cinemark. The film will be released on IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD, and premium screens worldwide on July 26, 2024.
