Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday is bringing back major MCU characters. According to a new update from scooper @MyTimeToShineH on X (formerly Twitter), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) is already confirmed to appear in the movie, and Tom Holland (Spider-Man) is also confirmed, as it was part of his contract.
Robert Downey Jr. will be playing Victor von Doom—not Tony Stark—in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. He will be the main villain, replacing Kang the Conqueror due to the Jonathan Majors controversy. He’s the Doom from The Fantastic Four: First Steps universe. While his role in that movie won’t be significant, he will be teased.
Avengers: Doomsday will be a multiverse film—because it’s the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The plot of Avengers: Doomsday follows Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who isn’t truly evil; he believes he is trying to save the multiverse from incursions. In his twisted logic, the only way for the multiverse to survive is to unify all universes in one place—Battleworld—under his rule. He sees this as the sole path to ensuring survival for everyone.
A recent scoop from Daniel Richtman on Patreon revealed that Marvel Studios has reportedly informed some Avengers actors to keep their schedules open for the production of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
What is the current status of Marvel Studios’ live-action shows and upcoming projects?
According to insider Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK), Marvel Studios reportedly has “at least” five live-action shows in development right now—additionally, they will decide the fate of Blade and Armor Wars in the coming months.
Filming for the two ‘Avengers’ movies will begin in London in the second quarter of 2025. Stephen McFeely will pen the script. The Russo Brothers will also produce the two films via their AGBO banner, which is clearly outside the norm for Marvel, as they typically don’t work with outside producers, preferring to keep the team in-house.
The confirmed reports reveal that Marvel Studios will pay Downey Jr. $50 million for each of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with the potential to double that amount based on certain box office incentives.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to be released on May 1, 2026, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will be released on May 7, 2027.
