Filming for Marvel’s ‘Blade‘ is set to begin this fall.
According to insider Alex Perez during a Q&A session with our Discord members (Via The Cosmic Circus), ‘Blade’ will reportedly serve as an origin story for both Mahershala Ali‘s Blade and the Ebony Blade. Much like the structure of ‘Eternals’, many of its elements will be set in the past.
The script for ‘Blade’ has recently been completed, and Ali is reportedly happy with the draft. Originally written by Michael Starrbury and Nic Pizzolatto, it was rewritten by Michael Green (Blade Runner 2049). The film remains set to be R-rated, and the storyline has undergone major changes.
It is already reported that the film’s budget is less than $100 million. Set in the year 1920, the movie is directed by Yann Demange and stars Ali in the titular role, reprising his character Eric Brooks/Blade from previous Blade films. The cast also includes Delroy Lindo as Deacon Frost, John West Jr. as DEE, Mia Goth, and Milan Ray. We reported that Goth is rumored to play Dracula’s daughter Lilith Drake, the main villain.
Yann Demange Excited to Unleash Mahershala Ali’s Grit in R-Rated ‘Blade’
Speaking to Deadline, Demange said he’s excited to unleash Mahershala Ali’s ruthlessness and roughness in ‘Blade’, now that the film has an R-rating.
Demange said, “We are going to have fun because Mahershala is such a deep actor. I’m excited to show a kind of ruthlessness, a roughness he has, that allows him to walk the earth in a particular way. I love him for that. He’s got dignity and integrity, but there is a ferocity there that he usually keeps under the surface. I want to unleash that and put it on the screen.”
According to reports, Ali is set to voice Blade in the Disney+ ‘Marvel Zombies’ series, slated for release in 2025.
The film is a reboot of the franchise and the 36th film in the MCU. Produced by Kevin Feige, Eric Hauserman Carroll, Louis D’Esposito, and Bassam Tariq.
‘Blade’ is scheduled to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.
