Matt Damon (‘Air’, ‘Oppenheimer’) and Ben Affleck (‘Hypnotic’, ‘Deep Water’) will star in the crime thriller ‘RIP,’ with director Joe Carnahan, known for ‘Boss Level,’ set to direct.
The Carnahan-directed film is described as a crime thriller with his original script, and filming is scheduled to begin this fall. Full plot details are being kept secret.
Produced by Affleck and Damon’s company Artists Equity, since its launch in November 2022, Damon and Affleck have released their first film, ‘Air,’ in April 2023, which performed well at the box office. Since then, the studio has also produced the documentary ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’ for Amazon MGM Studios, and ‘Small Things Like These,’ which opened this year’s Berlin Film Festival and won the Silver Bear for supporting actress Emily Watson.
Affleck and Damon were searching for a new project under their company as Affleck finished production on his sequel to ‘The Accountant.’ They had tried to start another crime thriller, ‘Animals,’ earlier this year, but couldn’t coordinate schedules due to ‘The Accountant 2,’ so they had to put it on hold temporarily.
Damon recently portrayed Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro in Affleck’s acclaimed sports drama ‘Air,’ and he also played Leslie Groves in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer.’ His upcoming projects include ‘The Instigators,’ produced by Artists Equity, and ‘The Accountant 2.’
Affleck was last seen in ‘The Flash’ as Bruce Wayne/Batman one last time, and in ‘Hypnotic’. He will next appear in ‘The Accountant 2’.
As of now, ‘RIP’ does not have a fixed release date. Damon and Affleck will soon secure a distributor for a theatrical release and streaming rights.
