Michelle Trachtenberg, the actress known for Harriet the Spy, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Gossip Girl, has sadly passed away at the age of 39.
According to the New York Post, Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant. A few days later, due to complications, she was found by her mother on Wednesday (February 26, 2025) at around 8 a.m. at One Columbus Place, a 51-story luxury apartment complex on Central Park South. Police have confirmed that her death is not being investigated as suspicious.

Trachtenberg was born on October 11, 1985, in New York City. Her parents were Jewish immigrants—her father from Germany and her mother from Russia. She started acting at age three in commercials and made her TV debut in The Adventures of Pete & Pete (1994–1996) on Nickelodeon. As a child, she appeared in many Nickelodeon shows and won a Young Artist Award in 1997 for her role in CBS’ Meego. In her twenties, she became well-known for her roles in the comedy EuroTrip (2004) and as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl (2007–2012).
According to amNewYork Metro, Ella Ditraglia, 20, was both a fan and a neighbor of Trachtenberg and expressed shock and sadness over the news of her untimely death.
Ditraglia said, “I’m devastated. I didn’t even know she lived here. I love her work, and it’s just sad news. My thoughts are with her family and friends.”
Last week, Trachtenberg posted a new picture of herself on Instagram and wrote, “I wanted to look like naughty.” It is shocking to see the actress’s sad fate. RIP.
