Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning had its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on May 14, 2025. Following the premiere, Tom Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie and the Mission: Impossible team received a 7-minute standing ovation at Cannes. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has earned a critic score of 87%.
Cruise, who returns as Ethan Hunt, delivers final Mission: Impossible action scenes that hit hard, and the stunt team deserves all the awards. The film has a runtime of 3 hours and stands as one of the greatest action movies of all time. The tension, stunts, direction, editing—everything borders on perfection.

According to a user review on X (formerly Twitter), Jonathan Sim said, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is stunning. It starts off more as a dark, grim sci-fi thriller before eventually delivering the action-adventure you expect. Cruise is as fantastic as ever. It uses way too many flashbacks and the pacing is imperfect, but the finale owns.”
According to a user review on X (formerly Twitter), Tom Chatalbash said, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is stunning — it’s a whole lot of movie, for better and worse. The stakes, tension, and intensity have never been higher, and Cruise once again reminds us why he’s a truly singular action performer. The set pieces are breathtaking, the performances strong, and the emotional elements worked well in this possible final installment.”
According to a user review on X (formerly Twitter), Matt Neglia (@Cannes) said, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is the biggest film in the franchise yet, playing like one extended climax stretched across nearly three action-packed, emotional hours. With a more somber tone, the stakes have never been higher, and the action set pieces are undeniably epic — none more so than the haunting Sevastopol submarine sequence, a standout for its sound design, score, and tension. The finale, featuring certified madman Tom Cruise flying, dangling, and clinging for dear life off an airplane, also delivers on the adrenaline-fueled goods.”

Directed by McQuarrie and co-written by McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen, the film stars Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Esai Morales as Gabriel, Pom Klementieff as Paris, Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas, Mariela Garriga as Marie, Rolf Saxon as William Donloe, Holt McCallany as Bernstein, Nick Offerman as Sydney, and Frederick Schmidt as Zola Mitsopolis. Additionally, Mark Gatiss and Charles Parnell return as the heads of the NSA and NRO from Dead Reckoning Part One, respectively, while Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Tramell Tillman, and Stephen Oyoung have been cast in undisclosed roles.
Produced by Cruise and McQuarrie, with production companies including Skydance Media, New Republic Pictures, and TC Productions.
