Moana 2 is hitting theaters next month, and Fandango has officially revealed the film’s runtime. The sequel will run for 1 hour and 40 minutes, 7 minutes shorter than the first film’s 1 hour and 47 minutes.
According to Deadline, Moana 2 is tracking to earn $100M+ during its 5-day domestic box office opening weekend, which is expected to be one of the year’s best openings. It is projected to surpass the first film, which opened with $82M, and outperform Wicked: Part One and Gladiator II.
What is the Plot of Moana 2?
In Moana 2, Moana and Maui reunite three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, ‘Moana 2’ features music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
The voice stars are Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Simea, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Hualālai Chung as Moni, Rachel House as Tala, Awhimai Fraser as Matangi, Gerald Ramsey as Tautai Vasa, and Alan Tudyk as Heihei.
In a recent interview with Empire, Cravalho says Moana is now described as a ‘master voyager.’ Three years have passed since the first film in Moana’s world, and she is seeking to answer the question, ‘Are there more people out there?’ Cravalho feels a strong reunion with the character, and voicing Moana feels like ‘coming home’ for her.
Cravalho said, “Three years have passed since our first film [in Moana’s world].” She added, “Moana is now a master voyager.”
“She’s trying to answer the question, ‘Are there more people out there?’” Cue an actual voyage to unite more people from beyond the line where the sky meets the sea. For Cravalho, it was a reunion with a character she loves. “It’s really like coming home… I don’t have to do anything to get back into voicing her—[Moana] and I are still super tight. I understand her.”
Moana 2 will hit theaters on November 27, 2024, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
