NetEase and Marvel are reportedly developing an Overwatch-style game. The game, a third-person shooter similar to Valorant, is slated for release in Q3 2025.
According to The Streamr, the game’s unconfirmed title is ‘Marvel Rivals,’ also referred to as ‘Untitled Marvel Game.’ Developed by NetEase Games, which signed a deal with Marvel in 2019 to develop projects.
NetEase has worked on Marvel Super War, a free-to-play 3D third-person MOBA, and Marvel Duel, a mobile CCG. Players have now shifted their attention to Marvel Snap.
Who are the Characters Confirmed to Appear in the Game?
The ‘Untitled Marvel Game’ currently features Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, Luna Snow, The Punisher, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Loki, Spider-Man, Hulk, Magik, Magneto, Mantis, Storm, Peni Parker, Black Panther, Star-Lord, Namor, and Thor.
At this stage, Storm, Scarlet Witch, Loki, and Namor are the most overpowered characters, each with their own unique abilities and powers, with more expected to be added.
Game Modes:
- “Escort”: Players take a convoy to an undisclosed location.
- “King of the Hill”: Players aim to gain points and control an area.
Maps:
- “Odin’s Vault”: One of the revealed maps.
- A real-world city (excluding New York) and a named island from Marvel comics.
Gameplay Feature:
- “Environmental Destruction”: Players can use character abilities to heavily impact and destroy maps.
Recently, Marvel Games and Skydance New Media unveiled the debut trailer for ‘Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.’ This action-adventure game, directed by former Naughty Dog lead Amy Hennig, harnesses cutting-edge nanite and lumen technology in Unreal Engine 5. ‘Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra’ is scheduled for release in 2025.
