Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming animated feature ‘Spellbound.’ The story is set in a world of magic known as Lumbria, where a young girl, Ellian (Rachel Zegler), must break the spell that has split her kingdom in two.
From the creator of Toy Story, the co-director of Shrek, and the composer of The Little Mermaid, comes Spellbound. Directed by Vicky Jenson (Shrek), with an original score from EGOT-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast) and lyrics by Glenn Slater (Tangled). See the poster below.
What is the Plot of Spellbound?
According to the Netflix logline, Spellbound follows the adventures of Ellian, the tenacious young daughter of the rulers of Lumbria who must go on a daring quest to save her family and kingdom after a mysterious spell transforms her parents into monsters.

For Zegler, it was “a dream come true” to appear in an animated film. “It’s really different to perform an entire movie from a recording booth — you have to capture every aspect of an emotional performance from behind a mic, and no one will be able to see your face at the end of the day,” she told Netflix Tudum. “You place your performance into the hands of many talented animators who totally take it to the next level.”
Zegler added, “audiences will see how incredible the art of animation is when it comes to teaching tough lessons to the next generation.”
The script for Spellbound is penned by Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin, and Julia Miranda. The film is produced by John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Bruce Anderson, and Linda Woolverton.

Spellbound will premiere on November 22, 2024, on Netflix.
