A new ‘Evil Dead‘ film is in the works, with Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County) set to write and direct.
The new film will mark the sixth installment in the Evil Dead film series. The project is in the early stages of development, as confirmed by Deadline. Galluppi developed the original script for Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures.
The plot details are unknown. In a statement to Deadline, Rami said, “Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence. He is a director who shows uncommon control in his feature debut.”
The Evil Dead film series is one of Raimi’s horror masterpieces. The first film was released in 1981, starring Bruce Campbell. In 2023, Evil Dead Rise was released, starring Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland as two estranged sisters trying to survive and save their family from deadites. Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, and Nell Fisher (in her film debut) appear in supporting roles. The film grossed over $147 million worldwide, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Two Evil Dead Films in Development
Right now, there are two Evil Dead films in the works. Earlier this year, Ghost House enlisted Sébastien Vaniček (Infested) to co-write and direct a spin-off for the franchise.
Galluppi’s feature directorial debut, ‘The Last Stop in Yuma County,’ is a crime thriller released in 2023. It stars Jim Cummings, Jocelin Donahue, Richard Brake, Faizon Love, and Michael Abbott Jr. The film follows a traveling knife salesman who gets thrust into a high-stakes hostage situation by the arrival of two bank robbers who will stop at nothing to protect their ill-begotten fortune.
The release date for ‘Evil Dead 6‘ is currently unknown. However, we can confirm that filming will begin this fall.
