A new international poster for Sony’s ‘Anyone But You‘ has been revealed. The R-rated rom-com, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell as Bea and Ben, is set to release in theaters next month. In addition to the poster, a promotional trailer has also been unveiled. You can check out both the poster and trailer below.
The film is based on Ilana Wolpert’s script, which Will Gluck is rewriting and directing. Produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Gluck (who, with his Olive Bridge Entertainment, has a first-look deal with Sony), Executive produced by Sweeney for Fifty-Fifty Films, Natalie Sellers, and Alyssa Altman for RK Films.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gluck blamed the first teaser for being very confusing and edgy. He said, “I blame myself.” Gluck added, “The teaser wasn’t well received, and I put that completely on my own shoulders. We tried to get too cute with it. It is a big, fun comedy, and if you saw that teaser without anything else, you’d think, ‘Is someone going to get killed? Is this a thriller?’ That was a mistake on my part. I just wanted people to lean in and say, ‘What is this?'”
In the edgy comedy Anyone But You, Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell) look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold – until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.
Recently, Sony released the full trailer for the film, so Gluck says this trailer is going to wipe out the teaser effect. He said, “People leaned in [to the teaser] and said, ‘I’m not going to like this,’ which is not what the movie is.” Gluck added, “The movie is an edgy R-rated comedy with romance and farcical elements. It’s big music numbers and wish fulfillment. You get to see sunny Australia in the middle of winter in the West. That’s what you’re going to see in the trailer. So wipe that [teaser] out of your memory.”
‘Anyone But You’ also stars Alexandra Shipp, Michelle Hurd, Bryan Brown, Darren Barnet, Hadley Robinson, Dermot Mulroney, Rachel Griffiths, and GaTa.
‘Anyone But You’ is set to hit theaters on December 22, 2023, by Sony Pictures.
