The first trailer for Nia DaCosta’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is coming very soon.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the trailer will be released on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
The film, directed by DaCosta from a screenplay by Alex Garland, is the fourth installment in the 28 Days Later film series. It stars Alfie Williams as Spike, Jamie’s son on a personal quest on the mainland; Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Jamie, a scavenger and widower searching for his son; Jack O’Connell as Sir Jimmy Crystal, a cult leader and survivor of the outbreak; Emma Laird as Jimmima, Maura Bird as Jimmy Jones, and Erin Kellyman as Jimmy Ink, all members of Jimmy’s cult; Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Ian Kelson, a former doctor and survivor; Chi Lewis-Parry as “Samson,” an imposing Alpha leader of the infected; and Cillian Murphy as Jim.

According to World of Reel, the first test screening of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple recently happened. Early viewers are calling it “surprisingly strong,” with one saying, “I thought part 1 was outstanding, but this surpassed it.” Jack O’Connell is earning buzz for “villain performance of the year” for the second year in a row, and Ralph Fiennes’ Dr. Ian Kelson has a bigger role this time, delivering a performance said to be “even better” than in the first film.
Danny Boyle says Murphy won’t appear in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple until the end.
At an Edinburgh International Film Festival event (via THR), DaCosta confirmed that 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will expand on Spike’s story and Jack O’Connell’s character.
DaCosta said, “28 Days Later was one of my seminal films growing up… I had the DVD in my house. I watched it all the time. I obviously fell in love with Cillian Murphy. And Danny Boyle is a bonkers filmmaker. No one else can make a Danny Boyle film, and that was actually the biggest part of my pitch for the movie. I was like, ‘No one else can do that, and I have no intention of doing that. Here’s how I see the film—what do you think?’”
Boyle said, “He is introduced beautifully at the end of that film… Cillian will be a huge part of the third movie.”
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will hit theaters on January 16, 2026, via Sony Pictures Releasing.
