Oliver Hermanus (“Mary & George,” “Living”) has confirmed that his next project will be a biopic about the iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen which is expected to start production soon.
On an Instagram Story, Hermanus posted an image featuring the text “Untitled McQueen,” and he wrote, “Our film has a name… and a new director’s desk!”
Alexander McQueen was a British fashion designer who founded his label in 1992 and served as chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001. With a background in tailoring, he was known for his sharp tailoring, imaginative and often controversial designs, and dramatic catwalk shows. McQueen’s notable creations include the bumsters, skull scarf, and armadillo shoes. His work explored themes like romanticism, sexuality, and death, often incorporating autobiographical elements. He tragically passed away on February 11, 2010.
More details about the project are not yet known. Hermanus is currently working on the post-production of his romantic historical drama film, “The History of Sound.” He directed the film, based on the short story of the same name by Ben Shattuck, about the relationship between two young men—Lionel (Paul Mescal) and David (Josh O’Connor)—who meet in 1916 and travel together in the summer of 1919 to record the folk songs of their countrymen in rural New England.
As of now, there is no release date or production company attached to the “Untitled McQueen” project.
