‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ has been renewed for Season 2 at Disney+.
During Disney’s latest quarterly earnings call, CEO Bob Iger announced the renewal of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ for Season 2. Author Rick Riordan also shared a few words via Disney’s Instagram account to mark the occasion.
Riordan wrote, “I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to @DisneyPlus! Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!”
Season 1 has accumulated over 110 million hours of streaming on both Disney+ and Hulu. That averages to about 20.6 million total views when divided by the season’s runtime. The viewership grew steadily throughout the month-long run, with Episode 1 garnering 13.3 million views in its first six days.
The show, created by Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg for Disney+, is based on the book series of the same name by Riordan. Walker Scobell stars as Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Riordan revealed that he had the opportunity to view multiple cuts of all the episodes of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ so far. Riordan said, “I’ve seen cuts of all the episodes at this point, multiple cuts, because they do go through a manuscript, They go through revision, after revision, after revision. They’re great.”
According to the show’s logline from Disney+, the original series tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.
