The filming for Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s sci-fi thriller ‘Project Hail Mary‘ has begun in the United Kingdom. I have to say, the visuals are going to be on another level with Greig Fraser, the cinematographer behind the “Dune” films and “The Batman,” handling the camera work.
The film stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a sole survivor astronaut, and Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt, Grace’s superior. More cast members will be revealed soon.
On the X platform, Miller shared the film’s first shot clapboard and wrote, “LET’S GOOOOOOOO!”
Directed by Lord and Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard, “Project Hail Mary” is based on the novel by Andy Weir. The story follows Ryland Grace, who wakes up from a coma with amnesia and gradually remembers that he was sent 12 light-years away from Earth on a mission to save humanity.
As per Deadline, “The movie, filmed for IMAX, is an adaptation of Weir’s (author of “The Martian”) novel, set in the near future. Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a former schoolteacher turned astronaut, who awakens from a coma to find himself alone on a space station, devoid of memories about his identity or mission. As his memory gradually returns, he realizes he was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light-years away from Earth, to counteract a space event that has thrust our planet into the early stages of an Ice Age. As the details of his mission unfold, he must rely on his scientific expertise and resourcefulness. However, he might not be as alone as he initially thought…”
The film is produced by Lord, Miller, Gosling, Ken Kao, Amy Pascal, and Andy Weir. The film is a collaboration between Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Lord Miller Productions, and Pascal Pictures.
‘Project Hail Mary’ will hit theaters on March 20, 2026, by Amazon MGM Studios under the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures label.
