Following the end of the actors’ strike, filming has resumed on the live-action adaptation of ‘How to Train Your Dragon,’ starring Mason Thames and Nico Parker.
The filming began on June 30, 2023, in Los Angeles, CA, United States, and was halted due to the strikes. Recently, the cast for the live-action adaptation was announced, with Thames and Parker confirmed to play the film’s main leads, taking on the roles of Hiccup and Astrid.
What is the Plot of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’?
In a Viking village called Berk, the young outsider Hiccup befriends a dragon named Toothless instead of killing it. He learns about dragons and their misunderstood nature, gaining support from his friends and father. Together, they defeat a colossal dragon called the Red Death, leading to a new era of harmony between Vikings and dragons.

Dean DeBlois, the director of the animated series, will also direct this live-action film. It’s produced by Marc Platt Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures, with DeBlois writing the script.
Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation rescheduled the film’s release from March 14, 2025, to June 13, 2025.
